Whether you're an individual, family, community group, school or business, there are plenty of ways to get involved to help ease school holiday hunger for kids during the holidays.

PACKING DAYS

2026 PACKING DAY DATES:

Term 1 - Saturday 21 March, 10am - 11am

Term 2 - Saturday 13 June, 10am - 11am

Term 3 - Saturday 5 Sept, 10am - 11am

Term 4 - Saturday 5 Dec, 10am - 12pm

Where: Geelong Foodshare, 37 - 41 Morgan Street, North Geelong

What to Bring/Wear: Please wear closed toed shoes (we operate in a working warehouse).

PACKING DAY FAQS:

Do I need to pre-register to attend? No, just register on arrival to the warehouse. There will be a paper form to fill in with brief contact details, and a QR code sign in for safety acknowledgments and a film and media consent form.

Can kids come to help pack?

Kids are very welcome to attend with their parent or guardian. We do suggest primary school aged and above as they can generally follow instructions with gentle guidance.

Do I have to stay for the whole session?

Packing usually takes up to 1 hour, but if you do have to leave early just let a Pass the Snacks Geelong team member know.

What will I be doing?

There are many jobs which you can choose from: box makers, box packers, stock replenishers, quality controllers, joy sprinklers, box sealers and box stackers. Before we commence packing, a demonstration will be provided to help you decide which job might be best for you. Alternately, you can just watch too!

Is this event accessible and inclusive?

Yes, we aim to make our packing event accessible, inclusive and welcoming for all. The venue is ground level and wheelchair accessible, there is navigational signage, seating available, and a quiet space which can be accessed at any time during the packing session. If there is anything else we can assist with to help make the event more accessible and inclusive for you, please send an email to hello@passthesnacksgeelong.org.au or let one of our team members know on the day.

FOOD DRIVES & ONSITE PACKING

Gather a super crew together and hold your own food drive and packing session.

We will provide our 'shopping list' guide and the packaging items (boxes, tape, labels) and collect from you once you're done being awesome.

For schools holding their own food drives, we also offer a packing session onsite at the school with Pass the Snacks Geelong team members facilitating the session with the students.

What's the latest...

This is an awesome example of how a curious and open conversation at home can inspire kids to give back.

Their mum saw our recent post calling for food donations and by the next day the boys were off to Aldi with their savings to buy snacks 😍

Donations don’t have to be large to make a difference. In fact, small consistent donations are just as important for charity sustainability.

A massive thank you to the team @gscfinance!

We put the call out for cereal and muesli bars and Matt (Partner and Managing Broker) flew into our DMs faster than spilt milk on the kitchen counter, offering not only a collection point but to donate much needed food items.

Breakfast in particular is provided to many kids who need it during the school term, and the absence of school support means kids might not be starting the day well and fed on the holidays.

We get it. Everyone is running on empty.

End of term hits hard, energy is dwindling. Budgets are stretched, and even more so with petrol bowser prices hitting wallets hard.

Right now, disadvantaged kids and their families across our community are already struggling and even those who are usually food secure are feeling the pinch. For Pass the Snacks Geelong, food donations are low this term, meaning we will purchase more food than usual to try and meet the need.

If you’re in a position to help, we’re asking for just two things:

Feedback from our schools is that they really value the ability which the food boxes give them to not only hear the need, but then be able to respond with immediate relief by giving families extra food before the holidays creep in and school holiday hunger starts.

What’s inside a school holiday food box? ⁣

When school’s out, many kids lose access to the school food support they rely on. ⁣
⁣
Our school holiday food boxes help bridge that gap providing nutritious, kid-friendly food to ease school holiday hunger.⁣
⁣
Each Pass the Snacks Geelong box is thoughtfully packed with foods such as: ⁣
💛Breakfast staples (cereal, oats)⁣
💛Lunchbox favourites (crackers, spreads)⁣
💛Easy meals (pasta, sauce, noodles)⁣
💛Snacks kids enjoy (muesli bars, popcorn)⁣
💛Pantry essentials (tinned meals, fruit, soup)⁣

It’s more than food though. It’s food security, dignity, and peace of mind for kids and their families during the school holidays.⁣

Every school holidays, kids lose the safety net of school food support. Breakfast clubs, toasted sandwiches for lunch, a little extra snack from caring teachers. ⁣
⁣
School holiday hunger and food insecurity generally continues to rise. This is consistent with latest food insecurity statistics and direct feedback from our schools, their staff and families themselves. ⁣
⁣
We exist to ease school holiday hunger for the many kids in the Geelong region. We have delivered hundreds of food relief boxes for the holidays since we started, and expect to deliver hundreds more this year with support.

We are saying ‘no’ to school holiday hunger and you can too. ⁣

Awareness starts with conversations and when young people are given the opportunity to lead and action, real change can follow. ⁣
⁣
If you’re over 16 and seeing this, or you have a young person(s) who’s fortunate enough to be food secure over the holidays, why not start a conversation about holiday hunger? ⁣
⁣
Ask your friends or your young person what they think could help, show them our packing videos and see if they’d like to be part of the solution. ⁣

Variety is the one piece of feedback we hear consistently from schools and families.⁣ It means a lot.

We work hard to fill our boxes with different snacks for two main reasons: ⁣

🤩 to bring excitement to the kids when they open the box and come across something new, or something which usually doesn’t make it into the trolley at the shops ⁣
⁣
🤔 to give families more food options and opportunity to enjoy an activity over the holidays such as making cupcakes or pancakes together = choice and dignity ⁣

Through variety, we aim to send a message to kids and their families to say “we see you and you deserve good food with a sprinkling of joy”.

For many kids, the summer holidays aren’t all fun and games but instead the toughest time of the year. When school stops, so does access to school food support, leaving too many kids without consistent food for almost six weeks. ⁣

For perspective, that’s from today until just before Christmas 🤯
⁣
This year, we are doubling our efforts to keep kids fed during the holidays. Each family will receive an additional box filled with extra key staples to help get the kids through the summer break. ⁣
⁣
How you can help: ⁣
⁣
1️⃣ Share: tell everyone! The more people who can help, the more kids we can reach. Costs zero dollar bucks. Feels great. ⁣
⁣
2️⃣ Donate food: grab something from our Shopping List (linked in bio) and drop it off at Geelong Foodshare between 1–5 December. You could donate a complete box or individual items depending on your budget. Even better, gather a crew together for your very own food drive! ⁣
⁣
3️⃣ Donate funds: head to the donate link on our website. $15 will fill a box with pantry staples and all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
⁣
4️⃣ Join our packing day! There’ll be festivities, fun, and LOTS of snacks to pack. See our previous post for details, no pre-registration required. ⁣

On Wednesday we joined We Made for our holiday fundraiser polymer clay art class! The kids made the cutest food-inspired keyrings, some to treasure, and some to tuck into next term’s food boxes as a little surprise 🎉⁣⁣

It was such a beautiful chance to chat with them about sharing, caring, and why food security matters. We’re so proud of their big hearts and creativity, and grateful to We Made for helping us fundraise during the school holidays. ⁣⁣

Absolutely nothing! Our volunteers were superstars! ⁣Boy did they ‘bring it all back’!

Our incredible volunteers gathered once again at @geelongfoodshare and packed 140 food boxes in just over 33 minutes, our biggest packing session to date! 💪 We are learning and evolving together each time we pack and this session was smooth like the bestest of peanut butters! ⁣

Thanks to everyone’s donations we were able to extend our service to an additional school this term, with a total of 150 boxes now delivered to our schools for distribution to the kids in most need over the school holidays. ⁣
